01Race developments

OH SENATE (SPECIAL)
GOP-aligned super PACs — Senate Leadership Fund, Musk's America PAC, Americans for Prosperity Action, and Trump-linked "pop-up" groups Ohio Flyer PAC and Buckeyes PAC — poured $14M into Ohio ads in the past week (race total now ~$298M, likely the cycle's costliest) attacking Sherrod Brown (D) over trans-rights votes and framing him as DSA-aligned. Despite the spending, Brown now leads Jon Husted (R) by 3–5 points and has outraised him $38.6M to $14.3M.

GA SENATE
New poll (Quantus Insights, fielded Sept 14–16): Ossoff (D) 48.2% – Collins (R) 44.4%, 49%–44.9% with leaners allocated, ±4.3 MOE. Consistent with the direction of other recent Georgia polling, though Quantus's house effect has run slightly more Republican-friendly than average this cycle — noted for transparency.

No verified developments on the New Hampshire, Maine, Michigan, or North Carolina Senate races, or on Governor/House races, cleared the 24–48hr bar today beyond what's already in this week's rating changes below.

02Polling & forecasts

Sabato's Crystal Ball's Sept 17 "Seven Weeks to Go" column made 8 House rating changes, nearly all toward Democrats: NJ-7 (Likely R → Lean D), MI-4 (Likely R → Toss-up), IA-1 and IA-2 (both Lean R → Toss-up), and CO-5 (Likely R → Lean R, a softer move). Four more GOP-held seats — AR-2, OH-10, NV-2, NY-21 — were flagged as newly vulnerable. Crystal Ball's House tally now stands at 210 D-leaning, 203 R-leaning, 22 toss-ups. The column cites a New York Times/Siena poll putting the generic ballot at D+8.5, part of what it calls "cycle-high" 7–9 point Democratic leads, with "little improvement in the Republicans' polling position."

Resolves the item flagged-but-unconfirmed in yesterday's issue — centerforpolitics.org itself is still returning 403s on direct fetch, so this is sourced via the column's own wire syndication rather than the primary URL.

Silver Bulletin's Deluxe forecast puts Democratic Senate-control odds at 59% (Sept 18), up slightly from 58.6% on Sept 14 — its highest point this cycle. Generic-ballot polling feeding the model: NYT/Siena D+8, YouGov/Economist D+12 among likely voters.

03Election administration & security

No new developments in the past 24–48 hours. The DHS v. League of Women Voters SAVE-database case remains pending at the Supreme Court — the civil-rights groups' opposition brief (filed Sept 15) is still the latest filing, no ruling issued as of Sept 18, and the lower-court injunction blocking the database stays in effect. Separately, reporting on the Court's mail-ballot ruling (blocking USPS restrictions for 2026) that surfaced this week is additional detail on the decision already covered in a prior issue, not a new ruling.
