Trump rallies for Husted in Vandalia, predicts a "big surprise"

Trump stumped Sunday for Jon Husted (R) and governor candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, telling the crowd "we're going to win, and we're going to win big" despite polling that favors Democrats. He leaned on AI data centers as a selling point while Brown's campaign countered on the electricity costs they bring. The headwinds Husted is running against are concrete: Ohio gas prices are up 35% year over year to $4.16/gallon, and Canadian retaliatory tariffs are hitting roughly $3 billion in Ohio exports.

National Democratic money finally shows up for Talarico

New FEC filings show the Senate Leadership Fund-aligned Texas PAC spent $131 million in just 17 days to rescue Ken Paxton (R) — $61.4 million of it in a single two-day stretch. Pro-Talarico groups are still being vastly outspent (Lone Star Rising has put in $13.9 million since January), but Senate Majority PAC, a national Democratic outside-money group, has now launched its own independent effort for Talarico — the first sign of serious national Democratic money entering a race Republicans have had to defend almost alone against GOP cash.

02Polling & forecasts

New poll shows a dead heat — but treat it as pollster noise, not a swing

InsiderAdvantage (fielded Sept 28–29, 1,200 likely voters, ±2.83): Brown 44, Husted 43 — essentially tied, and notably tighter than the Marist and Fox News reads from the same window, both of which had Brown up 8. This is volatility between pollsters' methodologies, not evidence the race moved; Cook's rating for Ohio Senate hasn't changed.

Generic ballot

Silver Bulletin average holds at D+9.0 — no new reading since Oct 2

Nate Silver's generic-ballot average sits at Democrats +9.0 as of October 2, up from D+6.7 entering September. A Monday post elsewhere restating "Democrats lead on the generic ballot" appears to be citing this same figure rather than a fresh one — no meaningful movement to report today.

Ratings

No confirmed Cook, Sabato, or Inside Elections rating changes today

Checked Cook's Governor ratings directly (unchanged since the Oct 1 Texas/Florida move) and searched broadly for new Sabato's Crystal Ball or Cook House/Senate batches. Found nothing dated this week: one hit was an 18-seat Cook release from January, long before this cycle's current ratings reset, and another was today's own recap of the already-known September 25 House batch, not a new move. Direct verification of Cook's own Senate and House pages was blocked by a site permission request this run that went unanswered — see the seat-change section for what that means for today's score.

03Election administration & security

Nothing new in the last 24–48 hours. The DNC's lawsuit over the Pentagon/USPS change to the overseas-voter registration postcard (filed Oct 1) is still pending, with no ruling yet. The dispute over possible ICE presence at polling places is in the same posture as prior coverage — a DHS denial, pending civil-rights suits, no new filings found today. Also checked and found no update on Georgia or other states' voter-roll litigation, or on Missouri's Proposition A redistricting referendum, beyond what's already been covered in recent issues.

Today's score — flat No confirmed race-rating changes from Cook, Sabato's Crystal Ball, or Inside Elections found today. Third flat day in a row, following the Oct 1–2 bump from Sabato's 11-race House batch and Cook's Texas Governor move.
DateScoreWhat drove it
Sep 290None confirmed. Cook Senate/House unchanged; this was the day before Sabato's already-published 11-race batch was caught.
Sep 300None confirmed this run — a Sabato 11-race House batch (dated Sep 29–30) was actually live but missed by the day's search, caught the next day.
Oct 1+11Sabato's Crystal Ball shifted 11 House races toward Democrats (itemized via Newsweek + DCCC).
Oct 2+1Cook moved Texas Governor from Likely R to Lean R.
Oct 30None confirmed. Cook Senate/House/Governor all unchanged since their last logged moves.
Oct 40None confirmed. Cook's "recent" House list was itemization of the already-scored Sep 25 batch, not a new move.
Oct 50None confirmed. Cook Governor unchanged since Oct 1; Cook Senate/House direct check blocked today, no new reporting found via search.

Trend: flat for three straight days after the Oct 1–2 bump. Net across the trailing 7 days is +12, but all of it came from two discrete rating-change events (Sabato's Oct 1 House batch, Cook's Oct 2 Texas Governor move) rather than steady day-to-day drift — worth watching whether the next rater update resumes the September pace or confirms things have plateaued into the final month.
