01Race developments

TX Senate

Ken Paxton raised $18M in Q3 — more than double his $9M Q2 haul and his best quarter yet — after becoming the uncontested GOP nominee and gaining access to joint fundraising with Senate Republican groups. He's still being outraised: James Talarico brought in $30M in Q2 and $27M in Q1 (Q3 not yet reported). On ad spending, Talarico has outspent Paxton on air $67M to $20M, though Republican outside groups have poured over $175M into the race backing Paxton.

GA Senate & Governor

Two new polls out of Georgia: a YouGov survey has Jon Ossoff (D) leading Mike Collins (R) by roughly 10 points in the Senate race, while an InsiderAdvantage poll finds the governor's race between Keisha Lance Bottoms (D) and Rick Jackson (R) essentially tied, with about 7% undecided as early voting approaches.

MI Senate

A new Mitchell Research poll (fielded Oct 1) has Abdul El-Sayed (D) at 45.6% to Mike Rogers (R) at 41.4% — a tighter gap than recent Marist polling but still a clear lead. The pollster flagged that Michigan Senate races have historically tightened "perhaps dramatically" in the final weeks, so treat this as one data point rather than a settled trend.

02Polling & forecasts

Generic ballot

Silver Bulletin's generic-ballot average held at D+8.9 as of Oct 5 (D+9.6 with a likely-voter adjustment) — essentially flat versus the D+9.0 reading from Oct 2, not a fresh move. Silver's own framing: Democrats "recently broke 50% support for the first time" in the average, and the current level is "a high point for the party this cycle," but it isn't climbing further this week.

Rating check

No confirmed Cook Political Report, Sabato's Crystal Ball, or Inside Elections rating changes found today. Confirmed directly: Cook's Senate ratings page is unchanged since Sept 23, and Cook's Governor ratings page is unchanged since the Oct 1 TX/FL move (already scored). Several Sabato and Cook pieces surfaced in searches today but all dated to July–September and were already covered or are superseded — no new batch today.

03Election administration & security

South Carolina

A federal judge dismissed an NAACP/ACLU lawsuit challenging South Carolina's cap of five absentee ballots a person can help deliver, which plaintiffs argued burdens disabled voters in care facilities. The judge ruled the plaintiffs lacked standing, writing that "a fear founded on future choices is too fragile for federal jurisdiction." The ACLU hasn't said whether it will appeal.

SC Daily Gazette, Oct 2 — scdailygazette.com
Pennsylvania

State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta (D-Philadelphia) introduced a bill to broaden Pennsylvania's existing 100-foot police-free buffer around polling places so it explicitly covers any "law enforcement officer," not just police — aimed at closing a perceived gap around ICE. Federal law already bars armed personnel at polling places, but DHS messaging on the subject has been inconsistent: one official told state election officials there'd be "no ICE presence at polling locations," while DHS separately said it isn't "planning" polling-place operations but might act on a "public safety threat."
