MI SenateRogers and El-Sayed meet for their first debate as Trump escalates attacks on El-Sayed
Mike Rogers and Abdul El-Sayed held their first debate Thursday evening in Grand Rapids. Trump posted on Truth Social attacking El-Sayed by his first name "Mohammed" and writing that he "goes back to the days of the Jihad," calling him a "RADICAL Extremist, Terrorist Sympathizer." El-Sayed replied that the president knows his name because "he says it every day," and said Trump was using his name and faith to distract from his policies. El-Sayed is campaigning with Barack Obama and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to unify Democrats after a primary he won by under a point; he trails Rogers roughly 2-to-1 in ad spending. Rogers has broken with Trump on the Iran war and Canada tariffs and did not make himself available for a pre-debate interview.

NY GovernorMarist cross-tabs on Hochul's lead show a 29-point gender gap and a lopsided enthusiasm gap
Follow-up detail on the Marist poll reported yesterday (Hochul 53, Blakeman 42, fielded Oct 1–4): the released cross-tabs show men and women splitting by a combined 29 points, with Blakeman leading upstate (51–43) and independents (49–42) while Hochul dominates NYC (69–24); the suburbs are tied at 48 apiece. Blakeman's supporters report far higher enthusiasm than Hochul's (80% "very enthusiastic" vs. 52%), and 40% of voters statewide say their family finances worsened over the past year. A Siena poll has Hochul +9 and a Quinnipiac poll has her +19 — a wide enough spread among pollsters to watch.

Broader searches today for fresh Senate, House and governor developments (Texas, Georgia, Ohio, North Carolina) mostly surfaced stories already covered in prior issues or dated well outside the last 24–48 hours (a Georgia Senate "GOP worried about Collins" piece traced to Sept 8; conflicting Ohio Senate polls couldn't be dated reliably from nonpartisan sources) — excluded rather than repeated or reported on shaky sourcing.
02Polling & forecasts
Generic ballotDemocrats' lead holds at its cycle high; no fresh move since Tuesday
Nate Silver's Silver Bulletin average remains at D+8.9 (D+9.6 among likely voters) as of Oct 7 — unchanged, still this cycle's high-water mark, up from D+6.7 on September 1. Cook Political Report's House outlook, built on that environment, projects a net Democratic gain of 5 to 15 seats (220–230 total). No aggregator published a newer topline reading as of this issue.

Rating changesNo confirmed rater moves found today
No new, confirmed Cook / Sabato / Inside Elections rating changes turned up despite an extensive search. Cook's and 270toWin's ratings pages and Inside Elections' ratings-data cache all failed to load today — not the usual 403, but an unanswered site-permission request that times out when nobody's there to approve it (expected in an unattended run; this has happened on other days too). Article-search for dated Cook/Sabato analysis pieces came back empty of anything from the last 48 hours.
Attempted: cookpolitical.com, 270towin.com, new.insideelections.com ratings cache — all blocked this run
03Election administration & security
Nothing new in the last 24–48 hours from official or court sources. The status quo holds: the Justice Department's voter-roll data lawsuits remain winless in court (confirmed unchanged as of Oct 9), and the Supreme Court has not acted since September on the pending emergency request over the Boston court's block of the administration's mail-ballot/USPS rules. No new rulings, official statements, or verified incidents found today.
