TX Senate

In a privately recorded fundraiser obtained by the New York Times, Ken Paxton (R) said Trump's Dallas midterm convention “dropped our numbers” for Republicans on the ballot. His campaign called the recording “manipulated nonsense” and said internal polling has since improved. Paxton continues to decline James Talarico's (D) debate invitations and faces separate pressure over his handling of a child sex abuse case.

Donald Chase, the Republican chair of the Georgia Peanut Commission and a self-described lifelong GOP voter, endorsed Jon Ossoff (D), citing Ossoff's work protecting peanut-based food-aid funding. “We don't necessarily elect a party,” Chase said. It's a small but genuine crossover endorsement, part of a wider trickle of Republicans publicly backing Democratic candidates this cycle.

Roll Call's “most vulnerable senators” ranking still puts Jon Husted (R) at No. 1, with new financial detail: Sherrod Brown (D) has raised nearly $39M through June 30 versus roughly $14M for Husted, and crypto-industry groups are readying about $30M in ads attacking Brown.

MI Senate poll

A new Fox News poll (Beacon Research/Shaw & Co., fielded Sept 24–28, n=1,203 RV / 1,028 LV, ±2.5/±3) shows Abdul El-Sayed (D) up just 1 point on Mike Rogers (R) among likely voters, 50–49 — a much tighter spread than Tuesday's Marist poll (El-Sayed +7). Both are credible pollsters; read as continued volatility, not a trend reversal.

Cook Political Report's Senate ratings remain unchanged since Sept 23, and its House ratings unchanged since the Sept 25 batch — no new Cook movement today. The Silver Bulletin generic-ballot average held at D+8.1 as of its last update (Sept 24); no fresher figure found.

03Election administration & security

GA voter rolls

A federal judge (Victoria Marie Calvert, a Biden appointee) dismissed the DOJ's second lawsuit this cycle seeking Georgia's unredacted voter rolls, ruling the Civil Rights Act doesn't preempt Georgia's voter-privacy law and that the state's redacted public list satisfies federal law. It's the DOJ's 26th straight loss in these suits across 30 states and D.C. — no federal court has yet ruled in the department's favor on this issue.

04Seat-change score

Today's score is +11, from Sabato's 11-race House batch above (Section 02) — all 11 moved toward Democrats per the rater's own characterization, so each scores a flat +1 under the standing methodology, including the three within-column moves (NC-03, OH-15 Safe R→Likely R; CA-45 Lean D→Likely D), consistent with how similar moves were scored on Sept 22 and Sept 26.

Methodology: each individual race-rating movement from a named nonpartisan rater scores a flat +1 (toward Democrats) or −1 (toward Republicans), regardless of how many notches it moves. Daily score is the sum of that day's qualifying moves. Polls, fundraising, endorsements, generic-ballot shifts and court rulings are excluded — only confirmed rater rating changes count.
